See and lakes

The beaches

The Atlantic ocean and beaches are only an hour away – Travel there on the motorway (Autoroute) or take the scenic route via quiet pine forested roads.  We can tell you which are our preferred beaches and restaurants. This is at ‘La Lagune’ beach.

Bike paths

All beaches on the coast are connected by miles of bike paths. Here in “The Lagoon” Most of these tracks were used during World War II to connect the German fortifications of the “Atlantic Wall”.

Under the pines

At La Lagune and Petit Nice beaches, lots restaurants under the pines and facing the ocean will offer to you a large choice of delicious food: Roasted Bass, Sardines and red Mullet, Mussels, Entrecôte with schallots, Duck magret and the delicate oysters of the bay. And as a starter, a chilled glass of rosé.

Arcachon bay

The large and well known Arcachon Bay area offers many activities including bathing, sailing, fishing, wind-surfing as well as a great choice of fish restaurants – with oysters a specialty!

Sand dune at Le Pyla

The renowned ‘Dune du Pyla’ near Arcachon (the highest sand-dune in Europe) is a must during your stay in Gironde. At the top a fantastic blue-yellow & green landscape awaits you, with sand, sea and pine forest it is a trully amazing sight. Don’t forget your camera!

The Lakes

Four of the largest freshwater lakes in France are situated inland along the coast at Hourtin, Cazaux, Lacanau and Biscarosse, each offering large, safe beached, fishing, sailing, pedalboating,
A smaller but pleasant lake is situated only half an hour from Chateau Sentout at Hostens (pictured at left), with sandy beaches, pedalboats, picnic areas as well as a small restaurant.
